Trading muscle for fat!

Stronger, leaner, healthier, but the trade off is no pounds lost, matter of fact it is the opposite, pounds gained. It is sometimes difficult to remember that getting healthy isn't all about weight loss, it is about eating healthy, exercising and of course cutting those bad habits that we all may indulge in. Yes, I am  guilty of drinking a margarita or spritzer on  a hot day, but everything in moderation. Learning to control what we put in our bodies is half the battle, the other is to get moving. I might not be a gym hound but I do enjoy spending hours outside doing yard work, gardening and splitting wood. My trade off for weights and bar bells is an axe and sledge hammer, not only is it a good work out it is something that has to be done.  Anyone up for a good whack??

Natural Exercise!

No gym, no lifting weights, just good old fashioned yard work. Spent most of Saturday out planing the garden, and then the rest of the weekend was spent carefully dismantling a deck so the wood could be reused. Talk about soar, it is amazing how much exercise one can get using a sledgehammer, a crowbar, a hammer, and lifting treated wood and stacking it. Forget the gym, this did the job!

The good, the bad, and the not so ugly!

Here is the skinny, the good is that I am working out and building muscle, the bad is that I have not lost any weight, the not so ugly is that I am maintaining but also there is  a notable difference in the fit of my clothes. They fit looser and some of my pants are to the point of sending them off to Goodwill because even a belt doesn't hold them up anymore. So can't complain since I did lose a ton a weight last month and as long as I maintain, feel good, and look good, that is what matters!

Where to find the time!

Haven't been able to get to the YMCA. Here I have  free membership, but have been busy doing so many other things just haven't found the time. But this will change in a couple weeks. Since I will have to go there to pick up my son I will have to work out. I am not a big fan of working out inside and prefer to do physical labor like working in the garden, weeding or mowing the lawn. I do have to admit that I do need to incorporate some strength training into my routine.

Just a little set back!

For most it wouldn't be a big deal, but boy did the dark chocolate brownie taste good, and the next little square, and the next...oops. Well, I haven't had any sweets for a week, and when you got to have it you got to have it. I am down in the past week, so spoiling myself is not a bad thing. Just need to watch what I eat this week. On the upside we do have two weeks til weigh in.

Remember to blog!

OK this one is for me. I have blogged regularly, but now that school is over and I do not have to log on to Kent email as often. Really need to make it  a practice to get on every day, if only to clean up the garbage emails. Well, signed up for my free three months at the YMCA, very excited to get started and the real plus is that my son will be attending the day care so I can go to work, hop over after work and do an hour workout, pick up my son, get home, cook dinner, go to bed and start all over again. At least I will be working out five days a week. Hope to see some of yo there.

Rough weekend!

OK, it was a rough weekend but who can blame me, I graduated with my Bachelor of Science in Public Health. Took 2 1/2 years to finish up after over 20 years of being away. I indulged, but can you blame me. You only graduate from undergraduate school once. Now time to get back on target.

Motivation!

It was great to make it through to the next round but now I need to get my butt in gear. The past two weeks have been exhausting with work and school obligations, but it is a thrill that my the past two and half years of hard work is going to pay off....OK, not talking about just losing weight, though I have lost over 50 pounds, I will be graduating with my BS in Public Health. This is a very exciting week and I will finally get a the summer off to concentrate on the enjoyment of family and getting more exercise.
